May 2: Veritas Imports ‘New to California’ 2014 Burgundy Tasting
TRADE ONLY — 12:00 noon to 3:00PM at Republique, 624 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles
RSVP required and should be addressed to jay@veritaswine.com
All wines poured will be from the 2014 vintage (with the exception of Pataille’s first release of his four single vineyard Aligotes which will be 2013). You already know that 2014 is recognized as one of the greatest vintages for whites, not in the last few years, but in the last two decades. This is full-on hyperbole, and it is absolutely deserved. What you may not know if you haven’t travelled to Burgundy to taste the 2014s, is how addictive the reds are: harmonious, forward, without noticeable edge, yet with plenty of energy; black fruit but with freshness —a guzzler with complexity. The secondary theme for this tasting is a focus on domaines that have recently been introduced/reintroduced to California, as well as ‘new to California’ cuvees from domaines you already know. Featured domaines: Comte Armand (Pommard), Stephane Aladame (Montagny), Thomas Bouley (Volnay), Alain Burguet (Gevrey), Benjamin Leroux (Beaune), Lignier-Michelot (Morey St Denis), Sylvain Pataille (Marsannay), La Soufrandiere (Macon & Pouilly).
