Additional Info
On a very steep hillside that required the installation of terraces. More than a thousand meters of retaining walls, built in the middle Ages, have since been patiently restored.
The terraces lie between 230 and 400m altitude. The material constituting the bedrock results from the crystallization by metamorphism of migmatites (mixture of gneiss and granite) and of granite with biotite of Kaysersberg but rich in sand. The sandy soil, coarse and clayey at the same time, is rich in diverse mineral elements (potassium, magnesium, fluorine, phosphorus) and the water retention is low here.
