  • Savennières Clos Le Grand Beaupréau

    At a Glance

    • Variety: Chenin Blanc
    • Terroir: Located at the top of Epiré hill, the well-ventilated, highest point in Savennières, just below the Moulin de Beaupréau, southwest-facing, early-ripening. The topsoil (30 to 50 cm) is composed of windblown aeolian sands, covering a subsoil of brittle schists that allow for deep rooting.
    • Viticulture: Organic (Ecocert), biodynamic (Biodyvin). 5,000 vines/ha, frequent hoeing of the soil, short pruning, manual de-budding and leaf removal.
    • Vinification: Pressed with whole clusters, settled, fermentation and aging for 11-18 months on the lees in 400 L barrels (some new), foudre, and stoneware amphora, spontaneous malolactic conversion (none or partial, depending on the vintage), filtered with diatomaceous earth, SO2 added occasionally before fermentation and/or during aging.

    Additional Info

Savennières, a relatively small appellation of only 150 hectares, is made up of three hillsides on the right bank of the Loire, plunging into the river. The Ogereau family began farming the magnificent Clos le Grand Beaupréau in 2002, giving them the opportunity to farm on both sides of the Loire River.
