Chez Blondin – Côte Roannaise

- Terroir: From a small sandy section within Les Blondins, steep, south/southeast-facing slope, 420-460 meters' altitude, fairly-shallow porphyry soil over hard granite bedrock with narrow fissures.
- Viticulture: Organic and biodynamic (certified), high-density plantation with 8,500 vines/ha, trellised, single Guyot pruning.
- Vinification: 100% de-stemmed, ambient yeast fermentation and maceration for 6 months in amphora, pressed within the amphora by hand, racked off the skins and aged for another 6 months in the same amphora, SO2 added just once before bottling.
Additional Info
The Sérols began experimenting with amphorae as a way of understanding Gamay St. Romain's natural tendency toward reduction. The first version that made it to bottle was Chez Muron 2016, with Chez Blondin and Chez Coste to follow in 2017.
